Building More Inclusive Communities in Winnipeg

November 13, 2019

We are in Winnipeg to launch the Building More Inclusive Communities Winnipeg. Building More Inclusive Communities Winnipeg is a human rights education program designed by Equitas to strengthen the capacity of children and youth to engage in actions based on respect for human rights. Children and young people participating in the programme undertake an empowerment process guided by human rights values and principles. Young Changemakers and staff from Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba Inc. (IRCOM), The City of Winnipeg Community Services and Recreation Services and Canadian Roots Exchange are gathering this week to build knowledge and skills in order to support children and youth in community action projects related to inclusion, equality and respect for diversity in their community.

Above is a photo of some of the results from an evaluation exercise that we did. Participants sculpted their feelings from the day out of Play-doh.

Below you have an image of training participants doing an exercise that fosters cooperation and inclusion!

This program was made possible with funding from the Winnipeg Foundation. Additional funding was provided by the Government of Canada and RBC Foundation. Travel was supported by the Air Canada Foundation.
