Youth Leaders for Gender Equality!

September 17, 2020

While all women and non-binary folks face increased vulnerability to gender-based and sexual violence, Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) and trans women who sit at the intersection of multiple axes of oppression experience violence at higher rates. This is why we cannot speak about feminism or gender equality without an intersectionnal lens. The @YWCA Young Feminist understood this very well and integrated this approach while conducting their Community Action Project through Equitas’ Speaking Rights program. They used the tools provided by Equitas to engage with decision-makers and community-members in Quebec, break down stereotypes surrounding feminism by using popular education and promote the rights of all women without discrimination.

Equitas contributes to the promotion of gender equality in Canada by empowering local groups like YWCA Young Feminists with knowledge and capacity-building tools that will help them become real changemakers in their communities.
